Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot
This is neither the best nor the worst film I've seen. It's about a woman whose husband fakes his own death and frames her for it. It had a decent plot and okay stars, but several things bothered me:
1. Practically from his first moment onscreen, Libby's (Ashley Judd) husband had a big flashing neon sign over his head that said "dirtbag". I know he's supposed to be the bad guy and it's made abundantly clear in the trailers and ads that he set her up, but maybe a little subtlety would have been good. Instead of making him pure evil, the writers could have written him to be an okay guy in a bad situation. It might have added more depth.
2. Tommy Lee Jones (my favorite actor in the world) repeats his shtick from "The Fugitive". I know what a great actor he is, so it's kind of a letdown to see him doing a character he's already done.
3. Ashley Judd doesn't talk much in this film. She kind of quietly moves from scene to scene, doing a lot but saying little. When she does speak, Judd looks uncomfortable, like she's not sure if she picked the right movie.
But "Double Jeopardy" is worth the rental price. There's a nice little revenge-twist near the end that works very well. Even though Jones resurrects his "Fugitive" character, it's still a pleasure to watch him.
